A Captured Moment with Fr. Michael Simoes
Last year, on Mother’s Day, one of my good friends became a father…Fr. Michael Simoes, that is! Fr. Michael and I have known each other from our young adult group days at Prince of Peace R.C. Church as far back as … well, I’m not going to date myself (j/k!). Enjoying all the activities and growing together spiritually, it was only with such excitement to have learned that he had entered the seminary. He always had such a joyous personality who without a doubt, could make himself known by his infectious and distinct laugh. All of our friends and I were elated to hear that he was going to be ordained a priest.
It was only humbling to have been asked to capture the events on the weekend he took his vows and received the sacrament of Holy Orders. Starting with a wonderful reception on the evening of his ordination, it was a fun reunion of sorts: long-time friends and acquaintances from many youth conferences and previous parish priests whom we had grown up with! Then, on Sunday, his Mass of Thanksgiving was the pinnacle of the weekend. To have captured the very first time he would consecrate the Holy Eucharist — the source and summit of Catholic Christian life* — was quite a riveting and an emotional moment for me and the congregation.
Thank you, Fr. Michael, for saying “Yes!” to God’s call to tend us, His sheep, and continually praying for us. We’ve got you in our prayers too!
